The setting takes place in an idyllic college town in the North. The authors use of descriptions help the reader fully understand time and place as well as what the characters are going through. I liked how the book has a beginning, middle and end, writing 101. Often times author's now a days want to leave the reader to figure out the ending on their own. Very frustrating. The characters are easy to relate to. There is a twist that will keep you guessing. Very impressive first book by the author!

Wonderful, original story. Great characters. Couldn't put it down. Excited for the author's next book!

I can't believe this is the author's first book. So engaging, I could not put the book down. The characters are interesting and diverse. The descriptive way she writes makes you feel like you are taking every step with the characters, and you feel like you are in their environment. I look forward to her next book and how it takes me away.
This is a wonderful story full of complex characters and thoughtful paths that lead the reader on a journey. The sincerity of the main character and the depth with which she relates to her friends and her circumstances rings true throughout the story. You will want to join these college students as they "fumble" through their freshman year - it is a journey not to be missed.
Start to finish, this book keeps you wanting more and more. The detail in every chapter and the way you feel like you are a part of the story made this book hard to put down. Incredible, Laurel!! Can't wait to read "Longing to Be" - from someone who "doesn't have time to read" )
This book was very descriptive and really brought me back to my 'college life' experiences. I enjoyed the references to my home town and though the overall plot was far fetched, it was well done and touching. I cannot imagine that dorm life is the same as it was in the mid 90's with cell phones and fast paced technology. The descriptiveness really set a nice tone for the story...
Last Goodbye captures the nuances of collegiate life in a unique and believable way! Laurel Ostiguy has created characters who truly are finding their way as individuals and as a group of friends! I found this book to be completely entertaining and a much needed diversion/distraction from everyday life! Last Goodbye tells the predictable story of being a college student and those shared experiences we can relate to AND the special tale that is almost unbelievable.
